Girlfriend and I are thinking about going to Niagra Falls and Toronto for Labor Day weekend. Not really sure what there is to do up there but anybody have suggestions for things I should not miss? I will be driving my Miata so all the top down fun! Definitely going to go to a drive in movie since there are a ton up there. Probably looking to head up there for three whole days plus two others to get there/back.
Poutine (the national delicacy of Canada) for your time:

Check out Niagara-on-the-Lake. It’s a tiny little post card town. Lots of shops and restaurants. Check out one of the wine tastings/tours around there too.
Niagara Falls is a ton of fun. Toronto itself is pretty boring to me (I hate the traffic and dislike cities).

I will actually be going there at the same time with my girlfriend. I’d suggest checking out Groupon for stuff to do. It’s like a travel catalogue but will actually save you money. Among things to check out:
Maid of the Mist
Cave of the Winds
Sailboating in Toronto
Niagara Safari
Mountain Biking
Kyacking
Dine in Imax theater
Niagara River Jet Boat
Comedy Clubs
Helicopter tours
White water rafting
Keep in mind Toronto, Buffalo and Rochester are nearby for other things to do.

Hey that’s where I live! You have to try Smokes Poutinery. There’s also a cool drive-in movie theater around there. Where in TO are you staying?

Have not decided where we are staying yet. Probably gonna stay on the NY side of the falls on Thursday, Check out the falls on Friday, and then find an airbnb in Toronto Friday night through Monday morning. I will definitely try some Poutine, and I will look up that place. Which drive-in is the best? I was so confused to see more than one in a 10 mile radius, they are not popular near home.

Niagra falls is cool, but don’t stay there. It’s overpriced. Go there for the day. Hotel and breakfast/lunch/dinner will get expensive quick.

Oh okay cool. There are two drive ins. The best one is the 5-Drive-in, near Oakville just outside Toronto. I’ve been there before and it’s great. Let me know if you want to meet up and go for a cruise. Not sure if I’ll have a cool press car that week but I always have the Newport.

Well yeah I figured that much but it seemed like somewhere in the area would be a good stopping point leaving from NYC at night on Thursday. Maybe finding someplace like an hour out would be good? Would be nice to drive a little less that night anyways.

Plenty of museums in Toronto. It’s a shame the air and space museum is closed up, they have a 1:1 model of an Avro Arrow.

Nice, glad to know fellow Oppos are up there. You a natural born Canadian or one of those runaways? Haha, I will make sure to let you know when my girlfriend and I figure out our plans. If you have some twisty roads or cool places to cruise around, I am sure we could make time for that.

Well I am definitely looking to get out of the city too while there. My girlfriend definitely likes the idea of wine tastings so I will be sure to tell her about that. Anything in the surrounding areas of Toronto worth checking out? Like a good scenic drive?

Yeah, ill be there 4th-7th most likely so I am down for trying to fit in some Oppo time! Maybe a cruise with some Toronto-area Oppos. I am always looking for sweet roads to check out or just cool places to go.

Forks of credit looks pretty sweet although kinda short. But it is close enough that I will definitely go. I will check out those others and see if I can get them on the list too. Thanks!

Upper Big Chute looks like a really great drive. 2 hours doesn’t sound that far away. What is gas like in Ontario? Is it going to be outrageous compared to what I am used to?

Thanks for the advice then, no need for me to learn it the hard way also. I try to be a frugal tourist as much as possible. No need to spend aimlessly. I need to save that money to buy my girlfriend a shiny ring some day!

Meaning you like the roads in the US better? I gotta remember to not mix up KPH and MPH, seeing 100 on the highway is actually quite slow. I don’t want to end up doing 100mph in a 60mph zone lol.

Cobourg Beach, the Canadian Automotive Museum in Oshawa. The Muskoka area/Haliburton Country is cottage country and might be worth the drive.
Konzelman Winery in Niagara does a nice tasting and tour.

It’s about $1.15 Canadian per litre. So it’s probably cheaper than what you’re used to.

some of the southern/mountain ous areas have some really nice roads that we just dont have on flat ground around here.

Oh really? I figured it would be costlier since the US usually has some of the cheapest gas. I am in NJ where regular is going for around $2.30 USD per gallon. I think that converts to $0.61 per liter? Not sure on the USD/CAD conversion but that sounds about double.

I’m a Texas native actually, hence the username but I’ve been in Canadia for over a decade now. Sadly, most of the twisty roads are well north of TO. You’d have to want them pretty bad. That said, I can still give you the info if you’re interested.

Definitely thinking about doing the Big Chute road up in the Muskoka area. Seems like a rather pretty area! Thanks for the suggestions.
